Snow - it's here (really here)

The girls were so excited this morning.
'It came Mummy, it finally. really, came'.
They meant the snow of course - not Father Christmas!

We finally got our 'own' snow (as opposed to ski resort snow), and the girls could not have been happier.

So naturally this afternoon (after school and nursery - thank goodness for part time education) was spent outside.
Outside, in a blizzard, in sub zero temperatures, for over 4 hours.
And you would hardly believe it possible, that in that entire time outside, I was still the only one who shoveled snow off the driveway. The girls were actually quite cross when I told then to stop shoveling snow onto our driveway from the road.
'But Mummy, we are making a jump'.
And because I was sick of shoveling snow am a good and caring parent, I told them to make the jump in the middle of the road (but in my defense, it isn't a busy road). Of course eventually the snow plough came and squashed it, so I took them to the field at the back of the house to go sledding.
There is just something about snow that makes my kids come alive.

I am actually a bit of a fan myself.

And despite growing up in the southern hemisphere, I realised that today, when the snow arrived I was able to breath out.
Winter is here, everything is white, and now it is 'proper'.
After living on the 'wrong' side of the world for over half of my life, I now know that Christmas should be white. And it is looking highly likely that ours will be perfect this year.
Today we are thankful to Frau Holle.

  2. I'm ready for a bit of snow now, but looks like our snow last week is it for this year. Never mind, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and just enjoying your photos. I'm starting to understand your love of snow ploughs!

  3. I find it so strange to think of Christmas being summer and beaches!!! I just can't imagine not having snow or at least cold nippy weather :) I am always amazed at how kids can stay outdoors for that long in the cold...I'd much rather have a hot chocolate by a fire somewhere!
