Today we went skiing.
But today I also saw that it isn't always about skiing.
The kids like snow.
Today in the mountains was beautiful.
It was cold, and someone that may (or may not) be me, forgot balaclavas, so I ended up buying them at the sport shop in the resort. But hey - we can always use more balaclavas.
Seriously. Is there such a thing as too many balaclavas?
My kids love balaclavas.
The woman in the sport shop asked Emily if today was her first day of skiing (clearly feeling sorry for the poor little kid with cold cheeks and an incompetent mother).
Emily: No, it's my 3 one.
Sport shop woman: Oh, you mean it's your third day?
Emily: No, not day, the other one (looking up at me for clarification).
Me: It's your third season Emily. The third Winter you have skied.
Sport shop woman: Wow (but secretly thinking; how on earth has this poor child got through 2 previous seasons without a thermal balaclava). She gave Emily a free lollipop before we left, and would have clearly liked to slip a child abuse leaflet into her pocket too.
But despite the lack of balaclavas, it was a glorious day in the mountains.
We skied, we played, we drank coffee, we saw friends, we had fun.
We were tired, and went to bed early tonight.

In Australia, as you may remember, balaclavas are things that robbers wear, so I understand you. We own zero balaclavas and the closest any of my family have come to wearing one is a beanie, but only once or twice, in the dead of winter, and certainly not in a public place.
ReplyDeleteOh, look at all that beautiful snow!! You live in such a lovely place, and your girls always look so happy - they are going to treasure these memories when they are older xxx
