Today we decided to head out and choose our Christmas tree. Naturally the girls were very excited, and Sofie found the perfect tree (something which thrilled her no end).
The girls had a ball decorating it, and reminiscing about all the special ornaments from previous years (most of which are home made).
And I loved sitting back and letting them do it. I think it turned out great, but then I am pretty relaxed about the Christmas tree. I think Christmas is all about kids, and they were so proud of the tree that they decorated.
We also talked a bit about the Christmas trees I had when I was growing up (mostly white and plastic, but also with a lot of hand made ornaments) - I love sharing my history with them. Once it was done we turned out all the lights, and lay with our heads underneath it. We marveled at it's beauty an its scent, and whilst I know the dropped needles will drive me mad, I can't imagine depriving my girls of the fun of a real tree.
Today we also bought a small nativity scene, which Emily in particular loved. She sent ages arranging all the figures and talking to them (Emily is fond of chatting to inanimate objects).
"Mummy, did the wise men bring gifts to Jesus because Father Christmas hadn't been invented yet?'.

Great job decorating the tree girls, it looks beautiful :-)
ReplyDeleteHannah has an almost identical nativity scene which now has pride of place on the season table - loving Emily's take on Santa and the wisemen ;-)
I love when children ask questions like that! Thanks for sharing what is sure to be a treasured memory :)
