Christmas Day

Christmas Day is one of those funny days. It is a BIG day.
One of those days that has to be super special.
Perfect.

The pressure to get it 'right' is huge.
But DH and I have been together for ages, and one thing we have realised is that even the 'big' days are actually just days.
If they aren't perfect, the world continues to turn. And life is still good.
It is actually possible to try too hard to create perfection, when perfection can't be created.
Perfection just happens.

Our life is good.
Actually our life is wonderful, so the big days aren't quite as big, because the whole journey is big.

So whilst we love Christmas, we have minimal expectations, which usually means it works out pretty well. We don't go mad buying insane amounts of gifts, we don't plan elaborate feasts, or a full schedule of amazing events. We just plan to be at home together, and have a relaxed day as a family.
This year was no exception.
The girls woke early, and joined us on our bed to open stockings. It was early (did I already say that?), but I reveled in the excitement of our little girls in their Christmas pajamas, shrieking over the contents of their stockings.

After stockings we headed down stairs to check under the tree.
Santa had visited, and it looks like we had all been good this year.
And today - on this 'big' day - the answer was always 'yes'.That is our tradition.
The girls chose to wear pajamas all day. Emily changed her pj's part way through the day, but today no one needed to get dressed if they didn't want to.
The girls ate lots of chocolate, and that was ok.
Christmas lunch was done by DH and was awesome, but after less than 10 minutes Emily wanted to get down from the table and play. So she did.
Today the answer was always yes.
We watched a Thomas the Tank Engine DVD together.
We played board games together.
The girls wrestled.
We made Fimo sculptures.
We read books.
Emily wore her new Thomas The Tank Engine pajamas.
Sofie telephoned her Nanna.
The girls were in bed early (their choice).
DH and I watched a film together, which reminded me of how blessed I am to have found my soul mate.

Today was all about everything and nothing.
We were together, and everyone got to do what they wanted.
It was a big day, and it was perfect.
We were together.
Christmas - even if it isn't perfect, it is just a tiny bit magical isn't it?
